Myron Tuman, the creator of CourseDocs, may be best known as the co-developer of ConnectWeb software (formerly Norton Textra) as well as a theoretical studies of literacy theory and technology, including A Preface to Literacy (1987) and Word Perfect (1992).
Two other books, Language and Limits (1998) and CriticalThinking.com (2002), provide a critique of contemporary language education, casting a wary eye on changes promoted as "progress," including the widespread promotion of all things critical. In his 2006 monograph, Melville's Gay Father, Tuman revisits his interest in in nineteenth-century narrative, analyzing the filicidal impulse of a series of fictional fathers. Along the way, he also looks at two perplexing and possibly related psychological issues: stuttering and anorexia. Meanwhile, Literary Plays (also from 2006) presents contemporary, dramatic adaptations of three 19th-century literary giants: Charlotte Brontë, Henry James, and Ivan Turgenev. Tuman began his career teaching middle and high school in New Orleans, then later English composition at the University of New Orleans, West Virginia University and the University of Alabama, before moving back to his native Louisiana in 2003 as the first endowed Chair in English at a regional campus of the University of Louisiana--a position he held till 2006.
